Australian teenager Cameron Myers, 16, is now the second-youngest sub-4-minute miler, running a 3:55:44 at the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne, Australia, on February 23, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Myers, who bested phenom Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s age 16 best of 3:56:29, is just nine days older than Ingebrigtsen was when he first broke four minutes in the mile. Ingebrigsten, now 21, is an Olympic gold medalist and a world-record holder.

“Obviously 3:56 is pretty good, I didn’t expect it,” Myers told the Morning Herald. But he did run 3:40:60 for 1500 meters last month, the equivalent to a 3:58.3 mile.

Myers finished the race in third, ahead of 2022 Commonwealth Games 1500-meter champ, Ollie Hoare, New Zealand’s Sam Tanner, and 2016 Olympic 1,500-meter gold medalist, Matt Centrowitz (4:06:52).
