After two cancellations and an October edition last year, the Boston Marathon returned to Patriots’ Day in 2022. Tens of thousands of runners covered the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boylston, overcoming Heartbreak Hill to cross the famous finish line.

Peres Jepchirchir won the women’s division and Evans Chebet won the men’s for a Kenyan sweep.
Chebet took a lead in the men’s field thanks to a 13:55 5K between the 35K and 40K mark.
Jepchirchir beat out Ababel Yeshaneh of Ethiopia in a thrilling finish—they traded the lead five times in the final mile.
Marko Cheseto Lumtuke was the winner of the T61-T62 Para Athlete division in 2:37:01.

The Boston Athletic Association says 24,918 runners crossed the finish line - a 98.4 percent completion rate.
Heather Knight Pech, 60, won her age group for the fourth time, finishing in 3:03:47.

Samantha Costas wanted to do something special for her first Boston. Costas has worn a costume in all of her other marathons and wanted to honor her home of Valparaiso, Indiana—the home of popcorn legend Orville Redenbacher.
Alban Crook (2:56:35) “spent years” planning the perfect way of popping the question to his now-fiance Karen Brophy (3:40:16). When the Des Moines, Iowa, couple both qualified for the 2022 Boston Marathon he knew exactly what to do.
Henry Richard ran in honor of his brother Martin, one of the three killed nine years ago. Richard had Martin’s name written on his right arm. He finished just minutes before 2:49 p.m., when the race held a moment of silence in honor of the victims.
Meb Keflezighi was there to present Henry’s medal. In 2014, Meb won the race with Martin’s name on his bib.
