For kids who like to look and feel super speedy, the Future Speed delivers. Nike said it developed these running shoes over three years by working with kids at its Sports Research Lab to “learn more about their movements and preferences,” and then crafted (and marketed) the Future Speed based off those findings.

A Supportive Midsole

The above-mentioned research revealed that kids are predominantly heel strikers, so the shoe has major heel cushioning. Nike also found that kids have an extreme angle movement due to their low-to-the-ground stature, so the Future Speed features firmer materials surrounding the soft foam for stability.

Room for Growth

Other features based on the findings include a roomy toebox so little feet can move (and strengthen) within the shoe, ground-feel to allow for neurologic development, and a lightweight build with minimal glues. Whether it’s because of the R&D;, the flashy colors, or a combination of the two, our kid testers loved these shoes.

Kid Approved

Our kid testers praised their comfort: “They don’t squeeze my feet too much on the sides;” and loved how they felt quick: “I can make quick moves in all directions in them.”

Super-Cool

Nike removed an eyelet so the shoe is easy to get on and off. Semi-attached tongue stays put when pulling on quickly.
